The Lesley Hyche-Turay Educational Scholarship is given on behalf of the Phi Beta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the Building Legacies Upon Excellence (B.L.U.E.) Foundation. This scholarship is named in honor of the memory of Lesley Hyche-Turay, member of the Phi Beta Zeta Chapter, who tragically lost her life in a vehicular accident in December 2012. Lesley had a heart for children and wanted them to exceed and reach their highest potential. This scholarship seeks to award a $1,000 scholarship to a qualified applicant that is a female graduating high school senior. 

We encourage qualified applicants to submit the required documentation for their consideration.  Please contact the Phi Beta Zeta Chapter for more information.

• Deadline for the scholarship application documents is Friday, January 31, 2025
• If selected, you will be notified by email by February 12, 2025
• Interviews will be held February 18th - 21st (provide current transcript through Fall 2024 for the interview)
• If awarded the scholarship, you will be notified by February 24th  
• The scholarship will be awarded at a reception in your honor, tentative March/April 2025.  

Criteria and required documents:

• Current graduating female high school senior in Tulsa Metro area 
• Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
• Current resume
• Current photograph (headshot or professional picture preferred)
• One page essay (500 words max) describing the solution(s) you would propose to improve or resolve a current issue, such as health care, the economy, education, discrimination, violence, politics, social justice, or a current similar topic of your choice.
• Three recommendation letters: teacher, counselor, coach, minister, community leader, mentor or employer. (No Relatives)
